Our Charter
- Coordinate and aid incident response for OSU, and act as a single point of contact within and without OSU.
- Provide security services and advice for OSU.
- Encourage the consideration and use of secure network protocols, software and practices at OSU.
- Promote awareness of computer and network security and related issues.
This site contains detailed technical and network administrator friendly information as well as the contact information for reporting a information security incident. Our homepage also contains a list of services we provide and an extensive Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) section covering important information security questions and issues.
The members of the information security group promote the use of security applications such as personal firewalls and anti-virus software throughout the university, assist campus partners with security assessments, assist with security incident response and (when necessary) recommend steps toward remediation of information security issues.
Additionally we are tasked with raising awareness of computer and network security issues through hands-on education and outreach programs including formal course offerings, hosting "cybersecurity days" and security oriented group Events like the university Security Working Group (SECWOG). The information security team also manages the university's safe computing web site - a publicly available resource on computer security and information security best practices.
The information security group prefers to receive incident reports and other security requests via e-mail at security@osu.edu and staff members are asked to contact their local DNA to report new incidents.

The review drafts fo the University Computer Security Standards (UCSS) are now available for public review and comment. The three standards - Critical, Web and Database - can be found on the UCSS webpage
